Ingredients

  • 2 lbs. sweet apples (4 large)
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp. maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup fresh cranberries
  • 1 1/2 tsp. fresh lemon juice

  1. Peel and core apples; cut into 1-inch chunks. Place in a large saucepan with 1/4 cup water plus sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, salt and cranberries. Bring to boiling.
  2. Reduce heat to medium-low; cook, covered, 10 minutes; if mixture is dry, add 2 tablespoons water. Cook 10 minutes more or until apples are tender and sauce is thickened.
  3. While still in pot, mash apples with a fork until pulpy. Stir in lemon juice. Serve warm or chilled.
