Roz Mayberry: D&W Wine Buyer & Consultant
As a 10-year-old living in France, Roz Mayberry found herself immersed in a culinary culture where even the schools served wine at lunch. That exposure to the French approach to food and to life made a lasting impression on young Roz. She would live in France off and on for several years, cultivating her love for fresh, amazing cuisine such as diced beets in vinaigrette, chicken stewed in red wine, and chocolate mousse. For Roz, the simple act of dining became a joyous celebration of food, friends, and family.
After spending 20 years teaching English and French Literature at the university level, Roz decided to make a midlife career change and pursue her passion for food and wine. She soon found a comfortable and exciting new home in the wine program at D&W Fresh Market, where she has dedicated herself for the past 20 years.
The one-time chef and caterer also currently teaches the wine courses at Baker College’s Culinary Institute in Muskegon.
During her distinguished career, Roz has served a term as the Retail Representative on the MDA’s Michigan Grape and Wine Industry Council and continues to serve on their Promotion & Education and Competition Committees. In addition, she has served as a judge in various national and international wine competitions.
Working with D&W’s wine stewards and SpartanNash’s vendor partners, Roz tirelessly explores the vast world of wine, discovering the finest wines for every budget and every taste. And she loves to discuss food and wine with customers and colleagues. As a lifelong foodie, there is nothing else she’d rather be doing.
